Our Team

At FIRM44 we believe the experience of our principals and advisors bring significant value to our clients. This experience coupled with contacts across multiple industries offer our clients insight and exposure to propel solutions and opportunities.

Jeff has held C-level leadership positions in multiple software, wireless, and technology companies and has successfully achieved exits for both investors and management team. For more than 30 years, Jeff has led high performing software technology and telecommunication companies. Most recently, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of TrueContext. Prior to joining TrueContext, Jeff was CEO of Spontaneous Technology, a wireless synchronization company acquired by IntelliSync. He also served as President and CEO of SkyTel, and Chief Operating Officer for SmarTalk Telecommunications, acquired by AT&T.

This followed a 14-year career with MCI Telecommunications where he served as Vice President and General Manager of the PrePaid Card unit after holding several senior management positions in the company’s Business Markets division. Jeff began his telecommunications career with Mountain Bell in 1982. He currently serves as Chairman of Q Inc, a QoE software company located in San Francisco and on the Board of Directors, Fine Point Technologies, Inc.

Omar has held senior management positions in technology, telecommunications, and software development companies, both public and privately held. Omar’s forte is in sales, marketing, operations, growing new product lines, and turnaround business situations. His most recent experience was in the public safety sector serving in executive management roles.

Previously, he founded Pinebrook Management Group, LLC specializing in providing consultancy services to various businesses. Prior to Pinebrook, he was President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Talk2 Technology, Inc. From February 1983 to January 2001 Omar worked at MCI Telecommunications, Inc. where he held several management positions, including President, MCI Business Markets. He also served as a Regional Vice President at NEC America Inc., and held management positions at OC Tanner Company and Xerox Corporation. Omar received a B.S. degree, Business Administration from the University of Hawaii. He has served on both private and public company Board of Directors, including Telegea, Inc. AccessData, Inc. and The SCO Group (SCOX). He also served on the Board of Visitors, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rotary Club of Houston Lombardi Trophy Committee, Houston Convention Fund, Kick Drugs Out of America Foundation, and Vice Chairman, Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort, The Woodlands, Texas.

Our Advisors

Bert has over 25 years of high-tech financial and operations experience. He has held numerous executive leadership roles within public and private corporations managing finance, accounting & treasury, legal, human resources, IT and operations. Bert’s previously served as SVP & Chief Financial Officer at Benefitfocus, a Health Care SaaS internet company, where he contributed to growing the company at a 22% CAGR during his tenure from October 2007 to current resulting in a recent round of financing for the founders of the company.

Over the past three years shareholder value has increased by over 82%. Previously, he was SVP & CFO at The SCO Group, a provider of UNIX based operating system software and at LANDesk Software, Inc. Bert also held CFO roles at: Talk2 Technology, a start-up provider of voice enabled solutions; EVP CFO at Whittman-Hart ; held various field financial and staff positions at Waste Management – including CIO; and Horizon Airline Group.

Bert has led or contributed to over ten acquisitions during his career, ranging from pure technology acquisitions for product line extensions to complete companies such as one in England to establish a European base of operations. Bert has also been involved in establishing offshore operations in China, Ireland and India, and has collaborated with field organizations to expand sales distribution through inside sales, channel programs and international operations. Bert has been Chair of the Board of Directors of Project Concern International a San Diego based charity and holds a B.S. in accounting from Utah State University.

Jim has significant experience in the Wireless Industry. He founded the Outdoor Site Group, a wireless site location company.

Previously, Jim was the founder and President of WorldCom Wireless, which quickly became the largest reseller of wireless services in North America. As President, Jim was responsible for managing and delivering in excess of $1.4 billion dollars in annual revenue and approximately 5,000 employees.

In addition to WorldCom Wireless, Jim has managed several other emerging divisions for WorldCom including prepaid cards, RealCom, consumer and shared tenant services. During his five-year tenure, Jim helped cultivate a strategic multi-channel distribution effort, which increased monthly activations from 4000 in 1996 to over 170,000 when he left the company in 2002.

Dee is a founding partner of Nova Partners and Chief Compliance Officer, a corporate financial advisory firm specializing in Fortune 500 C-Level services. As one of Firm44’s valued advisors, Dee draws on the financial reporting and capital planning experience she gained while managing multi-billion dollar expense/revenue streams for MCI. During her 20+ year career with MCI and WorldCom, Dee was the CFO and Vice President of Finance at MCI WorldCom Wireless and held other significant senior management positions.

While Vice President of Finance – Expense Controller, she managed the US Bankruptcy Court claims process and led the historic $8 billion restatement of WorldCom’s 2000 through 2002 financial statements. During this time she negotiated key contract settlements and directed more than 400 professionals while remediating material internal control weaknesses and restructuring operations. Her team transformed WorldCom into a current filer with the Securities and Exchange Commission under very tight deadlines and restrictions.

Maintaining GSA and SOX compliance requirements, redesigning management reporting systems to enhance accountability and performance, and building investor relations are strengths Dee will bring to Firm44’s clients.
